As the South Coast’s newest dental practice, we love welcoming new patients and helping with any questions they have about dentistry, their teeth and mouth health.
1. How often should I visit the dentist for check-ups?
There isn’t a single answer for everyone. We are all unique with unique teeth and so how often we need to visit the dentist is different for every person.
Generally speaking, we recommend a check up every six months. For some people they may only need twelve monthly visits whilst others need to visit more frequently, such as 4 monthly.
Often we do not know if we have dental problems, as most issues are not painful and can go undetected for some time. Common dental diseases like tooth decay are not able to be felt until they are close to the nerve of the tooth. For this reason seeing the dentist more often will allow for early detection of any issues with treatment that takes less time and is more cost effective.
2. When do I take my little one for their first dental appointment?
The general rule is that your baby should see the dentist before his or her first birthday. It allows us to check the development of the teeth and jaw bones and help with tips for brushing and tooth-friendly foods. This is essential for starting good oral care, which will help to put kids on a path of healthy teeth and fun dental visits.
3. I am terrified of the dentist. What can you do to help me?
Lots of patients are anxious about visiting the dentist. At Berry Dental Studio we love to help our patients overcome their anxiety. We have created a calming atmosphere and take a gentle approach to all procedures. For those who need extra help, we also have weighted blankets, tv shows, music and happy gas to help calm any nerves about your visit. We can even arrange ‘sleep dentistry’ with our visiting sedationist.
4. My teeth are really sensitive. Is there anything I can do?
The first thing to do is to come in for a check-up, so we can rule out any underlying issues with your oral health. If there is tooth decay, a gum problem or a traumatised tooth, you may experience sensitivity to hot, cold or biting hard foods. Cold sensitivity can sometimes be helped by using a sensitive toothpaste.
At Berry Dental Studio we also use special techniques and equipment to remove sensitivity that is sometimes associated with having your teeth cleaned at the dentist .
5. Do you do teeth whitening?
Yes - we provide customised whitening treatments. Berry Dental Studio uses professional whitening gels, which are safer and more effective than DIY whitening kits. If you are looking for something to brighten your smile, just let us know at your consultation and we can discuss your whitening options.
